The new Ontario Business Registry was recently released, giving businesses and non-profit corporations the ability to complete a number of transactions online. Using this registry you can register your business, incorporate, and update your company’s information. You can also file your annual returns directly through the Ontario Business Registry.

Your annual return is different from your tax return. The Ontario Annual Return is an information report that discloses the corporation’s name, business address, directors and officers. Corporations are required to file this report every year.

Get in touch with Koroll & Company today for business advisory and tax services.

To be able to take advantage of the registry, you will require a Company Key. The government will use this unique ID to work with businesses in Ontario.

If you don’t yet have your Company Key, you’ll need your:

  • Company name
  • Address
  • Contact name
  • Contact telephone number
  • Contact email

Once you have this information. You will want to head to the ServiceOntario website and enter either your business number, Ontario Corporation Number or Business Identification Number. Once entered, search for your business and follow the on-screen instructions.

In addition to obtaining your company key you will also need a ONe-Key to update company information and file returns.

To get a ONe-Key, visit the ONe-Key website and create an ID and password, if you haven’t already.

Once you have your Company Key and ONe-Key, you must associate your Company Key to your ONe-Key. To do this, you will have to find your business in the Registry. Once you have searched for and opened the business listing, click “If you want to maintain this corporation you need to be logged in and have authority over it”.

You will then be asked to log in using the ONe-Key credentials you set up. Confirm that you have chosen the correct company name then enter the Company Key and submit.

You are now ready to file your Annual Returns. These will be due six months after your year-end.
